How to Rebuild your NK2 autocomplete file
Hi Joshua,
Thanks for the app, however in my predicament it only does half the work for
me. I have a corrupt NK2 file
and would rather not start from scratch. Do you plan to include an edit and
export functionality into NK2csv?
IE Import current addresses, edit and export to NK2 format.

Hi Brian,
Sorry to hear about your corrupt NK2 file. Seems like the NK2 file can corrupt any time Outlook "disattaches"
from the NK2 file unexpectedly (ie:Outlook.exe process ended or was killed).
NK2csv is still pretty new, so not all of the to do list is done yet. ;) In the next version there will be an edit
along with export options. As for now, you might want to try the following work around to repopulate a new
NK2 file from the corrupted version.
1. Open NK2csv and export all of the corrupt NK2 addresses it finds to CSV, then import them into Outlook
contacts. (Open NK2csv and press f1 for help)
2. In MS Outlook, go to tools, options, mail setup, send/receive. Uncheck the
"Send immediately when connected box".
3. press the Send/Receive Button (in Options) and uncheck "Schedule an automatic send/receive".
4. Click "Work Offline, or if you want to be extra careful, disconnect your
computer from the internet by removing your network and/or telephone
connection.
5. Open a new e-mail, press the bcc or to or cc button, select the contact
folder you would like to bring into your new NK2 (autocomplete) file. Select
all names by highlighting first and last contact and then add them by
pressing the OK button at the bottom.
6. With your computer disconnected from your mail server, press the send button. This will automatically
populate your autocomplete file with all of the selected e-mail addresses.
7. Go to your Outbox and delete the e-mail(s) that you just created.
8. Go back into your Tools, Options, Mail Setup, Send/Receive and change your options back
to the original settings.
9. Finally, change your outlook mail settings back to how they were and plug in any removed cables.
I hope this helps! Thanks for supporting the NK2csv project.
Best Regards,
Josh Davis

Thanks a ton for getting back to me. Don't know if I
really expected
a reply. I'll try that out - sounds like it will work.
Thanks again. Really appreciated.
Brian.

Thanks for advanceā¦

Hello Jean-Pierre,
Thank you for taking a look at the NK2csv project. In answer to your question,
no I do not know of any certain way of relocating the NK2 file. I have a feeling
that if you could create a symbolic link in windows, you would be able to relocate
that file nicely. With that, here is a website which contains good information
on symlinks via Windows.

I hope this helps you! Thanks again and be sure to check our new website!

Hello Adrienne,
Please make sure you're logged in with local administrative privileges.
For some reason a few people have reported this, but we haven't been able to track the problem down. Since I'm not a software company, my troubleshooting pool is limited to people like you when an issue arises. Anyway I hope this helps. If not, please do the following.
1. Go to START -> RUN
2. type MSINFO32
3. save the file, FILE -> SAVE
4. locate that file, attach it and send a return e-mail to me
![]()
The path information contained in that file will allow me to troubleshoot it further, and possibly mimic your environment. Ultimately allowing me to deploy a quick fix for this error.
Thanks and Regards,

Developer, NK2.info

I just tried the nk2.info utility, thanks!
It works -- in a way. It pulls out all the email addresses, but not
all the names associated to the addresses. I suspect this is an
encoding issue, as my language uses some non-ascii characters.
It turns out that Håvard
is a talented programmer! He made a program
that's simliar to NK2.info, but handles ASCII characters much better.
Please give it a try if you're having a problem with NK2.info, you won't
regret it! Did I mention his program is also free?
Try Debunk2:

It looks like this:

Using NK2.info with Wine or Other Systems
Håvard Dahle wrote a program in python. Try that instead because NK2.info will probably at best run poorly under wine.
Try Debunk2:

I have compiled an executable of NK2 with all libraries included. *nix machines may still need the VB6 runtime libraries, however.
Here is a direct download link to NK2.info v.09c full.
How to export a NK2 file, then Import into Outlook
This is what NK2.info is designed to do! The below example is in Outlook 2003, but all version should be similar.
1. Open NK2.info. Use the check boxes to determine which types of Addresses to import.
2. Click the BROWSE button to locate and open your NK2 file. If it is auto detected, the folder will be displayed. Simply choose a NK2 file at this point. The NK2 file is typically found under C:\Documents and Settings\PROFILENAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.NK2 where 'profilename' is (usually) your username or username.domain name.
3. The e-mail address and name list populates, now Add/Remove addresses and press Export. By default your CSV file is saved at the My Documents folder with the name 'nk2.info.csv'
4. Open Outlook and click the CONTACTS button. Next go to FILE -> IMPORT AND EXPORT -> IMPORT FROM ANOTHER PROGRAM OR FILE. click next
5. Choose COMMA SEPARATED VALUES (WINDOWS), click next.
6. Hit the Browse button and locate nk2.info.csv (try looking in My Documents) then Press NEXT
7. Accept the default file save location (Contacts). Press NEXT
8. Press finish
Now you can use your Outlook contacts instead of the Autocomplete. You can also browse multiple NK2 files before importing into outlook. NK2.info is tested with up to 10,000 contacts loaded at once!
How to Rebuild your NK2 autocomplete file
First use NK2.info to export your exisiting NK2 file if needed.
The program below will allow you to create an autocomplete cache using all the items in your "sent items" and/or your address book!
Next download this free program which will rebuild your NK2 file: http://nk2.emenems.net
To rebuild your NK2 file see instructions on above site.
